Experiment
3/3/08. Be informed, my friends: I am going to pay more attention to my new blog for a little while. I am starving for interaction with all of you, so I have turned to the blog format where you can comment on my posts. So, please check it out and *subscribe* to it. I look forward to hearing from you!
Extrapolating The Universe From a Gunfight
1/10/08. Recently, I had the pleasure of performing with my band, The Barbarian Tide (aka The Barbarian Tides, Barbarian Tides, BarbTide). Whereas our music is generally upbeat and celebratory, it was my observation that our latest material was unusually dark and foreboding. I loved it. One of the literally 20 songs we wrote that day was called "Gunfight" and featured electronic drums, synthesizer samples, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, and dueling vocals of William and I. I was so inspired by that perfect creation that I have recorded a cover version of it. Is it really a cover to play a song I wrote? Hm, I'd better ask John Fogerty.
Nevertheless, I have taken the snapshot of the song (posted here) Barbarian Tides created and tried to flesh it out to its fullest expression, at least as full as I could conceive of alone. I hope it inspires the same discomfort and uneasiness as it does for me.
Where Have I Been?
12/1/07. Honestly, I don't know. The last thing I remember was sitting down to file my taxes and then I woke up with a long white beard and fingernails. I think somewhere in there, I ran for President of the United States, but I had to drop out after a scandal involving my daughter-in-law's tuberculosis immunization status. Those paparazzi; they'll dig up anything. I withdrew to Tennessee for a while to collect myself. Now I return bearing gifts. The sounds of this song might grab you by your shoulders and lift you out of your lull. To be honest, it may just as easily punch you in the face and tie your shoe laces together while you're down.
What You Know About A Remix?
5/5/07. After hearing my latest song, "Stay Away Too Long," my long time musical partner Josh Lando (Aluminum Splinter, Blight, The Barbarian Tide, Sid Uberoi) decided to remix the track. He definitely put his thing down on it. Listen and decide for yourself.
Away Too Long
4/25/07. I've been away too long. It's true. I return with a gift. Listen to the new song. What's new with you?
PENCIL goes PureVolume
11/7/06. Pencil has allowed the popular online community PureVolume to advertise its latest projects and achievements. After months of very heavy courting, Pencil finally agreed to the PureVolume deal "Just to get them off our backs." The band refused comment at presstime. The new PureVolume page can be accessed here.
This Might Melt Your Face Off
11/2/06.I hereby unveil a new Pencil recording. It's not even a developed song. It's only a snippet from a improvisation. It's only a spur of the moment expression of cosmic musical inspiration. It'll still melt away your skull like gelato on a hot South Jersey day. Last time I told you to use your lighter. This time you'll get Franco Spanko. Tell Flav it's time to believe the hype. Pencil plays for keeps.
**Update, 11/2: Some of you have commented on the recent abundance of instrumental music from me, particularly from my band Pencil. Perhaps you wonder whether I've left the world of music with melodic, lyrical vocals for muzak and jamrock. Psh. I have not. I choose to post musical snapshots of works in progress rather than keeping the entire thing to myself until it's "done." You'll hear my voice again very soon.
Maintenance Crew
9/26/06. I just noticed that one of the songs on the Music page was not downloading properly. I've fixed it. This bit of maintenance is worth a post because the song, Trimurte, is one of the most loved songs I've ever posted! This one is definitely a crowd favorite. I almost never take it down, because I get emails asking for it back up. One friend, Robert Peake, loved Trimurte so much that he used it as the background music for his commercial website! Now he's a millionaire! See? Trimurte is powerful. Fact.
And, for the Prince-conspiracy folks out there, Trimurte is from 1999. Yes, it's old. I'm not trying to pass it off as brand new. Check it out (again).
The Ultimate Sacrifice
9/5/06. A few years ago, Jerry Stepan and my brother prepared for my return from a vacation by growing terribly sleazy mustaches. When I saw their 'staches and shades approaching, I was flattered and floored. We must have laughed for five hours that day. They looked so crazy and dirty, it was awesome. They went to that trouble for me!
To celebrate Jerry's wedding this weekend, I honored him with the ultimate sacrifice: Akshay Patel, my brother and I grew sleazy mustaches. It took weeks of looking gross and scruffy, but the pay-off was so delicious that our efforts were totally justified. Enjoy the one photo you'll see of it.
On a related note, one my favorite television personalities, Steve Irwin, made the ultimate sacrifice this weekend. After saving another diver's life, he died as a result of a stingray attack. He was devoted to wildlife preservation. I love that guy.
Use Your Lighter
6/29/06.The long, bright days of summer bring forceful floods to whom we should give ourselves over. Don't fight it. Let yourself be carried away into the Schuylkill. It might improve your complexion.
Before you go, though, put my new song on your iPod. It'll make the transition into the afterlife a lot easier. This new track is a from an improvised jam session with my band, Pencil, featuring Josef Mintz. This is a worldwide exclusive first listen at Pencil. You are witness to the debut. Use your lighter.
One Step Closer to Bollywood
5/10/06. I am struggling with some technical issues ancillary to this website (like the Comments sections). I hope that in the weeks to come, most of them are resolved. In the meantime, I offer you some new content.
There is a new song called "This Time." It is the first time I've written or sang in Hindi. Well, that's not totally true. I definitely sang Hindi songs when I was little. Ask my mom. But "This Time" I've written the words myself! (That's a bad pun. Love it.) Most of it is English, and some of it is Hindi. Either way, you should like it. I'm one step closer to Bollywood Hero status.
I'm Like Prince
4/24/06. Yes. It's true. In one way, I am like (the artist currently known as) Prince. The rumor is that he hides entire finished albums of brand new music in a vault. They say that hours of the best music ever made sits in there, including rare collaborations with other huge stars. I always wonder how old his "new" record is. He could have recorded these songs in 1989 and just waited for us to be *ready* for them.
Well, like him, I am prolific. I have gigabytes of songs and songs ideas. Some get used and developed. Others are relegated to the corner lobbies of my hard drive, to wait. I found some nice little musical orphans and posted them. Short and sweet, these songs are from the last 6 months, so you can hear what I sound like these days. I promise, these songs aren't from 1989. I couldn't have played these songs with cuffs in my pants and frosty bangs.
There's new photos up too. 'Comments' sections are still under construction, so save your thoughts!
**Update, 4/26: More new songs posted.
You Got Things to Say
4/13/06. Many of you have suggested that I allow people to 'comment' on my site. I concur that it would be a valuable modification. I'd love to read what you think. I'm working on it....
Sid in Print... in the Past
4/9/06. I just stumbled on this article completely by accident. I'd forgotten that I'd been interviewed by The Daily Californian, UC Berkeley's college newspaper, on the topic of post-undergraduate plans. It's a strange feeling to read my own words that I don't remember saying.
Interview: Post-Undergraduate Plans (The Daily Cal, January 2002)
Live... from New Jersey, it's Sidharth Night Live!
4/8/06.I have successfully filled in substantial content, giving y'all a bunch to look at, listen to, and read. Being open and vulnerable is cool these days, right? I hope so. I wouldn't want to commit any more faux pas this week. I already wore brown shoes with a black suit. Well, I think the shoes were black with red highlights, but so far I haven't met anyone else that concurs with that description. Also, my brother has long believed that I am either colorblind or just a really bad dresser. Everytime I step out of the house, I probably convince more people that my brother's right.
Fill In the Blanks
4/7/06.Now that I've made the structure of this new site, I have to do the hard work of filling in the content. I have to give you guys something to see! I don't let people down, so you know I'm working hard on it.
New Era
4/4/06.This is the start of a new era. Hold your pants up. They're probably going to fall down. That's just embarrassing. I wouldn't do that to you. You trust me. Look around at the site. It's all new, and if you want to reminisce, you can find the old content in the Memories link.
